DESCRIPTION:Fundraiser organised by Mudislander Ross Golden-Bannon  in aid of the Attracta O’Regan PhD Scholarship for the early detection of ovarian cancer. Partnered with Breakthrough Cancer Research. Attracta O’Regan passed away on 2 July 2023 from ovarian cancer. There is currently no accurate test for the early detection of this type of cancer. In Attracta’s memory\, her husband\, Ultan Bannon and their family and friends have partnered with Breakthrough Cancer Research to launch a research scholarship targeting the early detection of ovarian cancer. \nFundraiser: \n\n\n\nCelebrate the season (with loads of shelter if it’s a ‘traditional’ Irish summer day!) with friends and family in the picturesque surroundings of Mud Island Community Garden in Dublin 3. \nThe Great Big Summer Picnic is a family-friendly fundraising event for adults and children. You pre-order your picnic here on Eventbrite and collect it at Mud Island where you’ll also find live music\, crafts\, a treasure hunt\, a raffle and other fun activities from 2pm onwards. \nJoin us for an unforgettable summer gathering and help raise funds for ovarian cancer early detection research in memory of the late great Attracta O’Regan. \nThis tasty picnic event will take place on June 28\, 2026 at from 2pm to 5pm.

DESCRIPTION:We will be re-opening the garden on the 1st of February with music and stories\, Bridget’s cross making and even a Céilí! Join us to shake off the winter months away and welcome nature’s awakening! \nFrom 12:00 onwards we will make CROSSES – we have plenty of rushes (from Leitrim\, the best ones!). Artist Rachael Kelly Ryder from Fire Station studios and Mudislander Aideen Leonard will be our annual Bridget’s cross making supervisors – read below if you want to learn ahead of the time. \n \nAt 1pm on the Caravan stage\, we will welcome back the great Roxana Nic Liam spoken words. Check one of her brilliant spoken word pieces HERE \nAt 1:30pm: \nArmagh Rhymers live music and amazing show at 1:30pm – you may remember them from last years\, they were delightful and the best way to celebrate the return of Spring. \nAt 2:30 Brigit by Bike (created by Artist Donna Cooney working with Dublin Cycling Campaign) will be leaving Mud Island Sunday 1st February at 2.30pm to head into Capel Street. Read more HERE.\nMaybe someone will join up with the cargo bike from Mud Island also? \nWe also have asked the amazing \n at 2:45pm on the Caravan Stage.\nBern is a Singer/songwriter/guitarist and calls her stuff ‘Frock’ – an eloquent mix of folk\, punk angst\, rock ‘n’ roll\, feminism\, ire\, laughter and irrepressible spirit.\nRaw and uplifting\, she will take to the stage with a fiery presence offering a heady mix of emotion and rebellion. “A real colourful individual with her saucy\, unusual\, punky\, spicy\, joyful songs” \nPerfect to honour the memory of Bridget! \nWe’ll finish this incredible line up at 3:30pm with a Céilí called by the great Jerry O’Reilly from Góilín with LIVE MUSIC and a few songs too (if we are worthy :-)) Jerry O’Reilly and Rosie Davis are much in demand as singers and céilí dance leaders and are known for encouraging new dancers and harnessing the enthusiasm and expertise of experienced dancers to recreate the lively atmosphere of the traditional house dances and dances at the crossroads. Jerry O`Reilly from Dublin is a singer and dancer.  A founder member of Brooks Academy in 1982 he is still actively involved and teaches a weekly dance class there.  He has taught dancing and has facilitated Céilí’s at folk festivals all over the world. Rosie Davis is a singer\, dancer and musician born in Woolton near Liverpool\, she has been singing and dancing from the age of three. She is well known in England as a traditional step dancer.  Since moving to Dublin (her dad’s hometown!) in 2013 she has further developed her set dancing at Brooks Academy and her Sean Nós steps at music sessions in The Cobblestone bar. \nDefinitely a date for your diaries! \n****All times are an indication\, best is to arrive early\, wear warm clothes and sensible shoes and maybe bring a flask and snacks as our café will not be in operation at this event. ALSO\, do not park your car in the entrance of the garden and use public transport****

DESCRIPTION:Din\, din\, din… *Cue scary music… The weather this year has been great for the garden\, lots of our plants have thrived with the mix of sun and rain but alas some have come along too much. It all started with a distinct lack of slugs\, nobody knew why. Then somebody mentioned that they hadn’t seen the resident cat for a while. The local dogs seemed to be barking at nothing when they dared to come near the garden. And of course there was the mysterious bite mark one of the Tuesday gardeners seemed to have recieved while trying to cut back some particularly nasty looking brambles. It’s\, it’s almost as if the plants have evolved in some way…\n\n\nAs always we’re in bad need of some extra helpers to bring the garden alive for the community on Halloween night. If you can spare even an hour or two between now and the 31st please get in touch.\n\n\nThanks to Breda Jackson for yet another brilliant poster

DESCRIPTION:We’re pleased to announce two 6-week yoga classes starting this month in the garden with yoga teacher and garden member Maria. Beginners course Wed 6 to 7 pm and Intermediate course on Tues or Wed lunchtime 1 to 2 pm\, TBC. SUMMARY:Sun Spoke Workshop at Mud Island
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the community garden for a relaxing\, hands-on workshop celebrating the sun’s energy and the turning of the seasons\, led by artist and facilitator Rachael Kelly Ryder. Rachael has been working with the Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Buckingham Street as part of the Neighbourhood Project and has led workshops on sustainable craft activities for local neighbours and community groups in Scotland\, London and Ireland over the years. Together\, we’ll create sun-shaped mandalas or mini-wreaths using natural\, foraged\, and upcycled materials including dried flowers\, ribbons and foliage. Open to all ages and artistic abilities\, this gentle\, creative activity invites us to mark the cycles of growth and harvest at the heart of Lughnasa. Come weave\, connect\, and celebrate summer’s light!\n\nAll participants can leave with their own wreath or sun spoke to hang on their front door or garden walls – some images from previous workshops attached. Numbers are limited so please let us know by return email if you’d like to take part to ensure your place.
