Woodcut printing workshop (in partnership with Graphic Studio Dublin)

This one-day workshop is an introduction to the reduction technique of relief printmaking, which uses a monotone image carved on wood and then printed on paper. The tutor is garden member and GSD print artist Ross Golden-Bannon.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a small edition of prints and the basic knowledge to use the technique at home or in a studio setting.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Suitable for beginners with no prior experience as well as artists at an intermediate level.

REQUIREMENTS & MATERIALS
All participants will be provided with monotone images tools, materials, paper and gloves. You are welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer.

Participants should bring:

  • An apron to protect clothing or wear appropriate clothing.
  • Sketching paper, tracing paper, pencils, a medium-tip permanent marker and carbon paper.
  • A packet of Baby Wipes (not Water Wipes) for cleaning during the inking and printing process.
  • you may bring your own source material (drawings, photographs, photocopies, postcards or sketches) on paper not on a screen or phone (we have no printer on site) suitable for A5 dimensions (21 x 14.8 cm). The image needs to be a monotone image in black and white with high contrast.
