With thanks to the residents of Marino, who were out in force sweeping up fallen leaves last weekend, we now have 2 full leaf mould piles. Leaf mould is the simplest form of composting. If you have room you can make a pile like ours from pallets. Or even simpler, leave them in a plastic bag with some holes pierced in it. If you don’t touch it, in about 2 years time it will have rotted down to a great soil conditioner. If you want to speed it up a little you can turn it and add water occasionally. Either way it’s a free but valuable resource for every garden. And your neighbours will thank you for clearing a potential slip hazard from your area.
